Welcome!

Who are we?

Solace is a ministry of spiritual directors and caregivers who have joined in an effort to offer the spiritual solace that comes through one another--from God.   Click here to meet us!

What?   ~ Our Mission Statement ~

The intention of our association within Solace of Souls is to offer opportunities for persons who want a deepening relationship with God through the ministries of spiritual direction and faith sharing.  We will offer emotional support and avenues for spiritual healing for persons who have been wounded and feel alienated by religious systems or by their faith communities. We have specifically identified the following    populations who are in need of particular care, but we do not wish to exclude anyone who comes to us in spiritual need for solace, guidance and support: e.g. those abused by clergy or religious, the gay and lesbian population, the physically disabled, and clergy who are in need of respite and spiritual care due to crises in their lives or vocations.

How do we minister?

We endeavor to provide opportunities for spiritual exploration/healing, and opportunities for fostering a deepening relationship with God  by offering retreats, workshops, spiritual direction, and limited pastoral counseling.

Where?

We offer these services via the internet, telephone, at various appropriate conference centers and retreat houses, or in our local offices.

Why?

We believe this service is necessary because, in our ministerial experience thus far, we see a need for this type of ministry and believe that the above mentioned populations (as well as many individuals who do not easily  fit into a certain group) feel  abandoned largely by religious institutions, and there is a great need and desire for them on their part to find spiritual community, spiritual development, and spiritual healing.

We believe that persons who have had the experience of being rejected or wounded by their faith communities (for whatever reason) find it almost impossible to have a meaningful faith journey without experiencing healing and spiritual support/guidance, and that they fit into the "poor" to whom Jesus instructs us to give a preferential option, and we believe that this work constitutes loving our neighbor.
